IEEE is the leading professional association for the advancement of technology. It is the world's largest technical society, bringing members access to the industry's most essential technical information, networking opportunities, career development tools, and many other exclusive benefits. IEEE is to engineering as the American Medical Association is to medical doctors and as the American Bar Association is to lawyers. The IEEE is well represented by all engineering and science discipline.
IEEE has a broad range of opportunities for you and your career. The wealth of information available to you can help guide you and your career path. When you are a member, there are many resources available to you online such as scholarships to job database. You can also stay informed on the latest news and groundbreaking discoveries in your field of interest with their online literature and Spectrum magazine.
The University of Florida Student Branch of IEEE brings even more opportunities for your academic and professional career. It also provides a great way to socialize and network with your fellow Gator engineers.
Throughout the year UF IEEE hosts information sessions in which students get to interact with some of the world's top companies. Student Professional Awareness Conferences (SPACs) are another event hosted by UF IEEE where engineering professionals come to speak on topics relevant to current engineering issues.
There are also several competitions that IEEE participate in annually, including IEEEXtreme and the IEEE Southeastern Conference (Southeast Con). IEEEXtreme is a 24 hour, worldwide programming competition that we regularly place top 15 in the world and 1st in our region. The IEEE Southeast Con is a regional IEEE conference which focuses around the IEEE student groups in the area. UF IEEE has historically placed in most competitions at this conference and many times we have taken 1st place.
UF IEEE also provides many other academic and networking services to our students. We provide peer advising services to aid ECE students in making decisions on their course schedules. Additionally, we host many social events such as our weekly Coffee and Donuts, BBQs, camping trips, sports tournaments and more!
